Getting Ready to Leave Bora Bora

Easy day today. We’re pretty sore and stiff from yesterday’s climb so decided not to leave today, but will go tomorrow. There’s a good weather window for the next day or two with modest winds, then they turn into 20+ knots and 3.5 meter seas, but all downwind and easing as we go west, so we’ll be heading into the better weather and leaving the stronger stuff here. About five other boats are heading out tomorrow as well. The folks who are staying here are going to get a strong blow.

So…we dinghied over to the store, and bought some supplies. Ann did some laundry and pre-made a pasta salad to have available for our trip and I uploaded pictures to the blog and Facebook and that’s about it for today. Had a nice time with ShantiAna and Bright Angel with cocktails on the deck outside Bora Bora YC, then dinner.

Slow, easy day, but our last day for a while in civilization. From here it’s nothing but very small islands for 800 or so miles then Tonga. I think the biggest one has a population of 200 and the small one has about 50 people. Should be interesting.

  1. Hi Ann
This is Gary typing Chuckie’s email for her. Don’t pay attention to Steph – the boy’s, or should I say Men – are doing fine -the block party was last week and you know your house was the starting place for all the games – they have coolers – they have no idea who they belong to ( and dishes). And Tyler moved in, so there’s stuff.

Steph told each of the boys she was coming but forgot to inform them she was staying. The condition of the house was dog hair – THE MAN CAVE – OK they need to pick up the dog poop and water the grass – the small was a bit much – )

I stopped in today (Thursday) all in the dishes were done and on unfolded blanket – it was good. Greg told me about a good lead on a job – on a job. He’s happy. Andy was sick Tuesday & Wednesday – back to work today.

Regarding the bathroom problem, it’s just roots in the pipes, not a big job.

The reason for not watering is the cost of water!
    Chuckie (& Gary!)

  2. Bob,

Saw your Dad today and got the latest on your trip. It was nice to see the pictures of your climb which he told me about. I am working on my swimming, trying to to crank up my distance and speed to see if I can pull off a trans bay swim before the water gets cold again in October. Had two good swims, one from the Bay Bridge back to Aquatic Park and the other from the Golden Gate back to Aquatic Park the longest of which is just over three miles. Both of those are with the current so I have been doing some swims out at Pt. Richmond that are more exposed and against the current. It sounds like you have the ultimate mobile home and have expanded your neighborhood a bit beyond our home base in Berkeley. Glad to hear you and Ann are having the best of good times, and look forward to seeing you and your new tattoo over the holidays.

  3. Well, I knew you were adventure sailors, but didn’t know you doubled as adventure climbers – yikes. I suppose if you climb Mt. Everest you’ll find a lake up there and do a little ice/snow sailing. Crazy people you are. 🙂

Good thing you are in a restful place, ‘cuz it sounds like you both could use a couple days R&R. Take your time. No rush. There’s plenty of mountains, er, islands up ahead. Fair winds and gentle skies.
