First shower in a month for that matter too. We’ve been taking teapot showers in the cockpit and eating fish or whatever veggies we can cobble together from the islands. Today, first thing we hit Fiji Meats for steak and “streaky bacon” (If you don’t order “streaky” you get Canadian bacon. Nothing against Canadians, but that’s NOT bacon). Tomorrow morning, I’m getting a bacon and egg sandwich!
The other highlight from today was just checking in with some of the other cruisers here. A couple of them we haven’t seen since Mexico almost two years ago, but really fun catching up with “the community”.
Our disappointment for the day was that the Vodafone place didn’t get a new internet dongle as promised so we are still “Facebookless” (and “NYTimesless”). But we have hopes that the thing will make it down from Lambasa tomorrow as promised (yeah, right. This is Fiji, we’re on island time. We’ll be lucky if it makes it here before we leave in a couple days)
That’s it for today. Can’t believe it’s “Labor Day” already, but can tell because NOBODY IS RESPONDING TO THIS BLOG. Uh, OK, I’m feeling better now.
😉
I was hoping that you would finally get facebook because I posted the pictures of the boppies that I promised months ago. I couldn’t post them before they were received in Texas. Ann – thanks for the inspiration, Colt loves his Boppy!
Know that we’re always reading, even if not responding. All your stories are appreciated. I especially like the boat-geeky kind. Now, I’m wondering if you’re running low on fuel because you’re skrimping on water when you have a watermaker.
Take care.
Nope, we’re good. We have a new system with a funnel off each solar panel and tubing into the tank. We’ve collected about 20 gallons in the last 24 hours for free with all the rain!
Even before that, we could usually run the water maker for a couple hours per day on just solar or longer using the hydro gen when we are under way. No need really to use the engine other than some amount of laziness, or maybe if we were anchored for a long time. I don’t like to use the water maker in an enclosed area. Too much sediment and/or algae in a bay or other constricted waterway.
So this is a test. I’ve posted comments on the Blog numerous times only to see that my comments are “being moderated.” Often someone else comments as well and their comments are posted. So, I figure either (a) I’m doing something wrong (even though my math is good), or (b) The moderator doesn’t recognize me. #confused
I’m doing a test, too. I’ve made several comments, and all but one were tagged “being moderated,” so I tend to assume my comments won’t post and I don’t make them. I LOVE reading your blogs and hope one of these days my comments will get through.
Glad you all got a shower and a steak! Watching the Broncos playing the Ravens….trying to not get too excited its just too early!! Got a good ride in this week, after replacing the bald back tire and chain!! it has been horrifically hot! which I hate…all good for the kids, just dealing with the prince and tempering his attitude. Nothing an all consuming job wont fix! Keep the posts coming and hopefully the dongle thinghy will be there soon! xxoo J
