So, there are seven of us yachties here in one of the more remote places in the world. What do we do? Dinghy party. How do you do that? Just before sunset, you make your favorite beverage, and a snack, jump in your dinghy and motor up into the shallows and throw out an anchor in about four feet of water over sand. Seven dinghies, 14 people sitting in their dinghies watching the sunset, drinking various boat drinks (in our case, Charismas of course) and telling stories of sailing daring do. Really fun.
Food wise, there was humus, popcorn, fresh baked bread, tahini, nachos. Yum!
We also went snorkeling today. We dinghied around the windward side of the island and inside the reef. It was a bit of an adventure getting there and back, but the snorkeling was fantastic. The water is exceptionally clear. We saw a white tip shark and tons of coral and the associated fish that congregate among the coral reef.
The wind was down today for a change and no squalls, so tonight we have unbelievable stars with no clouds in sight. Tomorrow is supposed to also be light wind before picking up again in a day or so, so we’re planning paddleboard adventure for the day and maybe some more snorkeling.
We’re getting some amazing pictures and can’t wait to post them when we’re back in “internet country”. The blue sky, turquoise water and incredible undersea world are fantastic. We’ll likely be here at least another week just enjoying being in a place this clean, clear and beautiful.
By the way, if you’re reading and enjoying this blog, let us know. It’s good to know whether anyone is following or whether we should just take a break and not post so often 😉
Adios for now.
Yes, we love the blog, but my comments don’t seem to be getting through?
Your blog is the first thing I read every morning. It gets my day going, helps me keep “life” in perspective. I love the stories and the adventures. They are entertaining, sometimes a bit “nerve wracking,” but always fascinating (even the boat repairs).
I look for your posting everyday – but you should do what you want to do – 3 times a week is awesome too. When you travelled with my pals Lisa and John, your blog was the only way to find out what they were up to.
Hi Bob and Ann,
Just letting you know that we are reading your blog almost every day and enjoy the tales of “derring-do”!
Bob, I wish I had been there to help you out with the engine repairs in Fiji, but it sounds like you got everything sorted out–nice work! If you can take the time out from snorkeling and drinking charismas, you might want to consider taking a fuel sample (from the bottom of the tank into a coke bottle or something) to make sure there’s no “creeping contamination” of your tanks now that everything is fixed.
That (and inspecting the primary fuel filter and keeping an eye on any exhaust smoke) are nice ways to watch for potential trouble without needing to disassemble and re-bleed the injectors/pumps, which I’m sure you don’t want to do there in remote paradise.
Fair winds and keep up the blog posting, we love it.
Don’t even think about stop the post , we follow daily.
Hi Bob and Ann,
My name is Ryan, I am Cliff McAuliffe’s son. He told me about your blog and amazing adventures you two are on. I am a self taught sailor on Lake Tahoe, and have learned the basic ropes on my Catalina 22. I have dreamed about sailing around the world many times, and one of these days I am going to pull the trigger. Your journey is very inspiring, and I will be reading about your adventures often. Thank you for sharing.
Hi !
Love reading your blog! Have a summer cold but at least I can enjoy in your adventure !!
I remember how blue the Mediterranean was off the coast of Mallorca ! Fiji must be amazing! Do enjoy!
Yes, I’m still reading and enjoying the tales of your adventures. It has become part of my routine to when I read the news in the morning.
Tiger made another visit to our house a few days ago to say hello. Layla was happy to see him come around and we of course then had to “look” for him every time we went out until she found a new obsession.
We will miss you at the block party (assuming your boys host again) but I’m sure we’ll discuss our thoughts about the adventures you have written about.
Yes, I’m reading the blog! I just don’t have a clever comment for each day!
keep writing and I’ll keep reading – my morning routine wouldn’t be the same without pangs of jealousy and dreams of coconut beaches, coral and bommies. Tiger has been a regular this last week – Jenny is home and he enjoys her company. If he comes over and she isn’t around, he goes on his way fairly quickly. Although the other morning I was headed out for a walk and got down to Sid’s house when I heard a meow and someone was tagging along… so I had to walk back to your house to make sure he didn’t follow me. I was headed to the mechanic on Concord Ave at 242 and didn’t think he’d like walking on Contra Costa.
I read every couple weeks to get caught up. i enjoy the stories
